Theatre Rhinoceros proudly presents THE MARGA GOMEZ NEW YEAR’S EVE EXTRAVAGANZA starring lesbian stand-up superstar Marga Gomez and featuring comic DOUG HOLSCLAW. This will be an evening of comedy and surprises that promises to kick off 2004 by celebrating together to ring in a Happy New Queer Year! Marga reunites with Doug Holsclaw to benefit Theater Rhino in a San Francisco New Year's Eve comedy tradition. There will be 2 shows on Wed., Dec. 31, at the historic Victoria Theatre - 2961 16th St. (Mission & So. Van Ness - across the street from Theatre Rhinoceros). Showtimes - 7:00 & 9:00 pm. Marga Gomez, one of the grand marshals of the 2003 SF LGBT Freedom Parade, is a hugely successful stand-up comic who has appeared on HBO's Comic Relief, Showtime's Latino Laugh Festival and Comedy Central's Out There. This openly gay, fierce, funny and foxy comedian has performed in concert all over the USA. Marga's comedy recording, Hung Like a Fly, is available on Uproar Records. Marga's stand up career was profiled in the 2003 documentary Laughing Matters, winner of the Outfest LA's audience award. Marga is the writer/performer of six theater solo shows: A Line Around The Block; Memory Tricks; Marga Gomez is Pretty, Witty & Gay; jaywalker; The Twelve Days of Cochina; and Marga Gomez's Intimate Details. She has been produced Off-Broadway at The Public Theatre, The Whitney Museum, Performance Space 122, La Mama Theatre, and nationally at Sushi Performance Space, Boston Center for the Arts, Highways Performance Space, The Painted Bride, San Diego Repertory Theatre, and internationally at The Montreal Comedy Festival, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, London ICA and Amsterdam's Triple X Festival. Her next solo piece, Los Big Names, will be premiering in 2004 at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Marga's film and TV credits include HBO's Tracey Takes on and Barry Levinson's Sphere. She has twice joined the casts of The Vagina Monologues sharing the stage with her idol Rita Moreno. Marga is the recipient of Theatre LA’s 'Ovation Award' for her collaboration with Culture Clash at the Mark Taper Forum in LA. She has also won the Bay Area Theater Critics Circle 'Outstanding Achievement' Award.

Doug Holsclaw began his comedy career at the Legendary Valencia Rose. He was twice-awarded the Cable Car Award for Comic of the Year. Doug has performed a trilogy of one-man shows at Josie's Cabaret. He performs comedy all over the Bay Area and can frequently be seen at Q Comedy at the LGBT Center. Doug also teaches courses in Stand-up Comedy at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
