Overview of the Mexican Dance Ensemble
The Mexican Dance Ensemble (MDE) is a Chicago based non-profit Mexican folkloric dance. The Mexican Dance Ensemble is composed of professional and talented dancers who have performed at several cultural and civic events in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Texas. Their commitment is to serve as a liaison of Mexican folk dance to all communities to promote cultural awareness through the dance arts. Because they express their talent at such a high artistic level of excellence, they are considered to be one of the most dynamic and talented dance groups in the Chicago land area.
The Mexican Dance Ensemble was formed in November 6, 2001. MDE started with 22 dance members. Presently, we have about 60 dance members distributed in four groups by age. They were established at St. Paul Catholic Church in the Pilsen community. MDE has had many wonderful experiences performing in many places including the Mexican Fine Arts Museum of Chicago, Mexican Independence Day and Cinco de Mayo parades, Viva Aztlan Festival in Lubbock, TX, and several other special events throughout Illinois.
MDE is lead by Chorographer, Samuel Cortez, from the University of Colima, Mexico. He has spent most of his life nurturing and sharing his passion for the Mexican Dance Arts. For more information, click on mexicanensemble.com
